Today, as I was listening to some Todd White videos on YouTube, catching up on piled up laundry, the following phrase struck my spirit.
"I am loved by God, not because of what I've done, but because of what He's done" (Todd White)
I think it's so easy to fall into the trap of performance, thinking it earns us brownie points. But His love for us is not affected by our works or lack of works, love is the very nature of who He is.
As a parent I find numerous occasions where Ive chosen to lay my life down for my children, because of my love for them. I don't love them for what they can do for me or for others, I adore them for who they uniquely are.
I am so thankful I don't have to live a life of reaping what I've sowed, I can have a life of reaping what Jesus has sowed. It's a gift that cannot be earned. When we find ourselves caught in the gerbil wheel of performance and works trying to earn God's approval, just take a step back and remember He willingly gave His life for us when we were deep in our sins. He thought we were worth it even on our worst day.
