"The greatest mistake a person can make is to be afraid of making one"
I saw this quote in my IG feed this morning and it brought back memories.
I remember our struggles with indecisiveness when we purchased our first home right before the real estate boom. With the financial pressures of a mortgage and raising two toddlers, my late husband went from job to job looking for the right fit but none were satisfactory. He was a national level, competitive bodybuilder who was used to success and I could see he was so unhappy with the small gains each one of these jobs supplied. He wanted to sell our home since the market was high and travel east of Canada to see if any new doors of opportunity for work or ministry would open. The suggestion to leave everything, my family and friends to start new sounded too risky to me, so we could never agree.
While in prayer about it, I felt God show me it was I that needed to give Scott room to lead our family and to give him the freedom to make mistakes. I realized my lack of trust was in God, not my husband, that in reality I didn't believe God was big enough to catch us if we fell. So I asked Scott to take a little drive with me and shared what I learned in prayer. I told him that I loved him and would follow whatever was in his heart to do and released him and us to make mistakes together.
My brother-in-law once told me, God can't move a parked car, it has to be moving first. Fear to me is just another type of faith; faith in my failure, faith in my inadequacy, or faith in the bigness of my circumstances. As i look back, I'm so glad I took that leap of faith with Scott, I learned so much during those two years of travel that I would never have seen if I did not take a risk.
Love is always worth the risk.
